Blonder is Better: Hair Secrets

While trends may come and go, healthy, glossy locks will never end up going out of style. Growing up, I had a long, golden blonde head of hair that I wore in a center part every single day. I never realized how much I would miss the ease that came with naturally blonde hair. These days, my natural color is a dark blonde. As much as I love a natural look, there's something about bright, golden, bouncy curls that just feel summery and feminine.

All of that being said, highlights, blow drys, and pool days are all so damaging to hair. All of which, my hair endures often. People often ask what I do to maintain a healthy hair routine, and my answer: treat your hair delicately.

Below, I have listed my absolute favorite hair products and why I love them so much.

1. Organix Moroccan Argan Oil shampoo & conditioner - I have used this shampoo for years and love it. It is simple, healthy and smells amazing. I always use shampoo and conditioner through the same line, since all of the chemicals are created to actively work together; you'll definitely see better results if you use both. Although I only try to wash my hair 3 times a week, I love that I am getting the benefits of Argon oil and organic chemicals while washing. I typically shampoo my roots and let the soap naturally rinse down the length of my hair, and leave the conditioner in for 3-5 minutes, afterwards. It is also so important to rinse your hair in ice cold water right before you get out of the shower, since the cold water closes your hair cuticles, further preventing damage. This little trick makes such a difference in softness and shininess when I step out of the shower.

2. Kerastase Hair Treatment - If you have highlights or colored hair, it is so important to use a deep conditioner at least once a week in order to keep it moisturized and healthy. The Kerastase treatment has been my favorite for about a year now, and makes my hair feel 10 times as soft and shiny - it feels like a fresh hair cut every time I use it. I typically massage a quarter sized amount through my hair and put it up into a bun for 20 to 30 minutes. Occasionally, instead of Kerastase, I'll use liquid coconut oil for a little variation.

3. Wet Brush & Comb - Since your hair is most delicate when wet, it is crucial to brush tangles gently and delicately after towel drying. I love the Wet Brush detangling comb since it is wide toothed and gentle; it has done wonders when it comes to preventing breakage on my hair. I often comb my hair at the bottom first, and work my way up to the roots to ensure detangling. A little tip: I run a brush through my hair before I shower to prevent wet hair tangles, as well.

4. Living Proof 5-in-1 - This product definitely lives up to its name. The five benefits include smoothness, volume, conditioning, strength, and polish; all of which I have noticed with every use. It is the perfect product for a quick blow dry, and minimal styling. Although it recommends massaging all throughout you hair, I start about 3-4 inches past my roots and massage down, which alleviates oil build up throughout the week. Depending on the day, I also occasionally will substitute this Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry if I plan on straightening my hair. It is no joke when I say that this product is AMAZING. If you have frizzy, wavy or curly hair, this product makes straightening and styling a breeze.

5. Organix Moroccan Argon Oil - Right before I blow dry, I typically run a dime sized amount of this oil through my hair. It works wonders with any frizziness or dryness, and has a lovely scent. It is also affordable, compared to most hair oils.

6. Biosilk Silk Therapy - Lastly, after blow drying, I run another dime sized amount of Biosilk through pieces of hair that frame my face, as well as my ends. My mom has used this product since I was a little girl, and I remember every time after she would blow dry my hair, I would beg her to add a touch of Biosilk to it. It leaves a perfect shine on curls or straight locks. I could be biased, but the smell is also heavenly.

Although I have only recently been dedicating a greater amount of time, money and energy into taking care of my hair, I have already seen such positive results with growth, breakage, and shininess. I am by no means a hair expert, but I do know that although little tricks and expensive products are beneficial, the most important aspect of healthy hair is what is inside of your body. Regular exercise, clean eating, and a lot of water will do amazing things for your hair, nails, and skin. From experience, I have also noticed that a combination of Biotin and Fish Oil pills create a natural shine, as well.

Some may have been blessed with better hair than the rest of us, but the products and healthy tips listed above can only help achieve that bouncy, shiny head of hair that we all aspire to have. Thank you so much for reading - if you have any other hair tips or questions, please send an email my way!
